Whirlybird Installation for Sorrento Homes
Whirlybird installation in Sorrento 6020, about 17km north-west of the Perth CBD. Dave's Whirly Birds is owner-operated: Dave quotes the job, Dave does the job, and the price you are quoted is the price you pay.
Sitting barely a kilometre from the coastline, Sorrento is squarely inside the belt where the Fremantle Doctor is at its strongest. For roof ventilation that matters enormously: the wind peaks in the afternoon, which is the same window your roof cavity peaks.
Sorrento is largely 1970s brick and tile on generous blocks. The 1970s brick-and-tile stock here sits on big blocks with correspondingly large single-storey footprints — a lot of ceiling area under one continuous roof. That is the classic case for three or four whirlybirds rather than two.
The good news is that eaves from this era are usually generous and genuinely vented, so intake air is rarely the bottleneck. Tile flashing is straightforward, and installs go quickly.
For a typical Sorrento home you're looking at 4 whirlybirds — $1,250, installed in one visit. Those big single-storey footprints put a lot of ceiling under one continuous roof.

Coastal — strong sea breeze
Whirlybirds or Solar Vents in Sorrento?
In Sorrento, wind-driven whirlybirds are usually the better value. The breeze is dependable enough that you are not paying for a solar panel to solve a problem you do not have — three turbines at $950 will typically out-perform one solar vent at $750 on a site this exposed.
The trade-off out here is corrosion, not airflow. Salt-laden air is hard on cheap roof vents, and the bearing housing is what goes first — Sorrento sees a lot of units that have seized or rusted out well inside ten years. Dave fits quality units with marine-appropriate fasteners rather than the cheapest thing on the shelf, because the labour to install a bad unit is identical to the labour for a good one.
If your roof happens to sit in a wind shadow — hemmed in by two-storey neighbours or heavy tree cover — that changes the answer, and a solar vent becomes worth costing. Dave will ask about that before quoting.

Whirlybird Installation Sorrento — Common Questions
From $350 for a single unit supplied and installed. Two units are $650, three are $950, and each unit after that adds $300. Travel to Sorrento 6020 is included and there is no call-out fee.
Large single-storey footprints mean three to four units is typical rather than two. The general rule is one 300mm unit per 50–60m² of ceiling area, adjusted for pitch and how much intake venting the eaves provide. Dave works out the exact number from your details before quoting.
Rarely an issue in Sorrento. The sea breeze is dependable enough through summer that turbines are turning most afternoons. On a still morning output drops off, but the hottest part of the day is generally covered.
Yes — replacements start from $350 per unit. That covers removing the old roof vent, fitting new flashing, installing the new unit and taking the old one away. Most swaps reuse the existing roof penetration, so they take about 30–45 minutes each.
