Whirlybird Installation Alkimos — What Your Roof Needs
Roof ventilation for Alkimos 6038, about 41km north-west of the Perth CBD in the City of Wanneroo. Owner-operated, fully insured, and priced up front before anything is booked.
Being about 2km back from the beach, Alkimos catches the Fremantle Doctor before most of Perth does. Wind-driven units perform genuinely well here — there are few afternoons through summer where the turbines are standing still.
Drive around Alkimos and you are mostly looking at newer estate housing, a lot of it Colorbond. Newer estate homes are the hardest case in Perth, and it is worth being blunt about why. Dark Colorbond roofs absorb far more heat than light tile, blocks are smaller so homes are built out to the boundary with wide footprints, and eaves are frequently narrow or boxed in entirely.
That combination gives you a roof cavity that gets extremely hot and has almost no natural intake. Adding extraction alone will underperform — the fix usually involves getting intake air in as well, which is cheaper than most people expect.
Most homes in Alkimos need 4 whirlybirds, which comes to $1,250 supplied and installed. Dark Colorbond over a wide footprint is about the hottest combination going in Perth.

Coastal — strong sea breeze
The Right Setup for a Alkimos Roof
Coastal exposure changes the maths. In Alkimos a wind-driven turbine spends most of the summer actually turning, so the cheapest option is also the effective one — start at $350 a unit and only look at solar if there is a specific reason to.
The real conversation in Alkimos is about longevity. Salt attacks bearings and fasteners, and it is the single most common reason Dave is called back to a house to replace units someone else fitted five or six years ago. Quality hardware and proper flashing are what buy you the extra decade.
Where a solar vent does make sense locally is on big or awkward roofs — large single-storey footprints, or homes sheltered from the breeze by everything around them. That gets worked out before a price is given, not after.

FAQ
Whirlybird Installation Alkimos — Common Questions
From $350 for a single unit supplied and installed. Two units are $650, three are $950, and each unit after that adds $300. Travel to Alkimos 6038 is included and there is no call-out fee.
Wide footprints and dark roofs push these homes toward four-plus units, or one to two solar vents. The general rule is one 300mm unit per 50–60m² of ceiling area, adjusted for pitch and how much intake venting the eaves provide. Dave works out the exact number from your details before quoting.
Faster than average. Alkimos is close enough to the water that salt is a constant presence, and it attacks bearing housings and cheap fasteners. Ten years is a good run for a budget unit here; a quality one fitted with the right hardware will do considerably better.
Rarely an issue in Alkimos. The sea breeze is dependable enough through summer that turbines are turning most afternoons. On a still morning output drops off, but the hottest part of the day is generally covered.
Yes — replacements start from $350 per unit. That covers removing the old roof vent, fitting new flashing, installing the new unit and taking the old one away. Most swaps reuse the existing roof penetration, so they take about 30–45 minutes each.
