Bertram Whirlybird Installation and Replacement
Bertram 6167 sits about 33km south of the Perth CBD, in the City of Kwinana. Dave installs and replaces whirlybirds and solar roof vents throughout the suburb — fixed prices, no subcontractors, travel included.
With about 8km between Bertram and the ocean, the afternoon change has lost a good deal of its strength by the time it arrives, and it arrives late. Worth knowing before you decide between wind-driven and powered ventilation.
Most of what Dave works on in Bertram is newer estate housing, a lot of it Colorbond. Newer estate homes are the hardest case in Perth, and it is worth being blunt about why. Dark Colorbond roofs absorb far more heat than light tile, blocks are smaller so homes are built out to the boundary with wide footprints, and eaves are frequently narrow or boxed in entirely.
That combination gives you a roof cavity that gets extremely hot and has almost no natural intake. Adding extraction alone will underperform — the fix usually involves getting intake air in as well, which is cheaper than most people expect.
For a typical Bertram home you're looking at 4 whirlybirds — $1,250, installed in one visit. Dark Colorbond over a wide footprint is about the hottest combination going in Perth.

Inland — late afternoon breeze
Whirlybirds or Solar Vents in Bertram?
Bertram is the part of Perth where this question actually has two defensible answers. The breeze gets here, but late — so a turbine does real work from mid-afternoon and very little before it, which is unfortunately when the roof does most of its heating.
Solar changes the timing rather than just the volume. Sun on the panel means the fan is running from mid-morning, so the heat gets pulled out as it builds instead of after it has already soaked into your ceiling. At $750 it costs more up front than a turbine, and on most Bertram roofs it does noticeably more.
For a smaller home with decent eave venting, three turbines at $950 is still a perfectly reasonable answer. Dave will give you the cheaper recommendation when it is the right one.

FAQ
Whirlybird Installation Bertram — Common Questions
From $350 for a single unit supplied and installed. Two units are $650, three are $950, and each unit after that adds $300. Travel to Bertram 6167 is included and there is no call-out fee.
Wide footprints and dark roofs push these homes toward four-plus units, or one to two solar vents. The general rule is one 300mm unit per 50–60m² of ceiling area, adjusted for pitch and how much intake venting the eaves provide. Dave works out the exact number from your details before quoting.
Same-week bookings are usually available in Bertram. Send an enquiry through the form and Dave will confirm the next slot along with a fixed price.
Yes. Bertram is roughly 33km south of the CBD, comfortably inside the area Dave covers, and travel is included in the quoted price — a quote in Bertram costs the same as one anywhere else in the metro.
Not if it is flashed properly. The flashing keeps water out, not the sealant — a unit bedded in silicone will eventually let go. Dave fits new flashing suited to your roof type on every install, which is the difference between a dry ceiling and a callback.
Yes, along with tile. Metal roofs use a purpose-made soaker or flashing fitted under the upper sheet and over the lower one, with matching screws and neoprene washers. On low-pitch Colorbond, placement high on the slope and clear of ridge caps matters more than it does on tile.
