Whirlybird Installation Bicton — What Your Roof Needs
Roof ventilation for Bicton 6157, about 11km south-west of the Perth CBD in the City of Melville. Owner-operated, fully insured, and priced up front before anything is booked.
About 3km separates Bicton from the ocean. That is close enough for a dependable summer sea breeze, and far enough that salt is a background concern rather than a constant one.
Housing through Bicton is dominated by character homes with steep tiled roofs. Steep old rooflines mean deep cavities, and deep cavities stratify: the air directly under the ridge can be ten degrees hotter than the air near the eaves. Units mounted high capture that layer, which is why placement matters more on these homes than on a flat modern roof.
Renovations are the complication. Boxed-in eaves, new lined soffits and enclosed verandah returns all cut off the intake path that the house was originally designed around. Getting air in is frequently the cheaper half of the fix.
Most homes in Bicton need 4 whirlybirds, which comes to $1,250 supplied and installed. A steep character roof holds a lot more hot air than the floor area suggests.

Near-coastal — reliable sea breeze
What Works Best on a Bicton Roof
The default recommendation in Bicton is wind-driven, and it is a genuine recommendation rather than an upsell avoided — the breeze here is reliable enough that turbines are not a compromise.
Dave steers people toward solar in two situations locally: large ceiling areas where the turbine count gets silly, and roofs that are boxed in by surrounding two-storey homes so the wind never really reaches them. Neither is the majority case in Bicton.
Whatever goes on, the unit quality matters more than most people expect. Salt still reaches this far inland in reduced quantities, and it finds cheap bearings eventually.

FAQ
Whirlybird Installation Bicton — Common Questions
From $350 for a single unit supplied and installed. Two units are $650, three are $950, and each unit after that adds $300. Travel to Bicton 6157 is included and there is no call-out fee.
Steep pitch means more cavity volume per square metre of ceiling, so these homes often want one more unit than the floor area alone suggests. The general rule is one 300mm unit per 50–60m² of ceiling area, adjusted for pitch and how much intake venting the eaves provide. Dave works out the exact number from your details before quoting.
Yes, and it is the benefit people forget. Warm moist air from inside the house rises into the roof cavity and condenses on cold surfaces overnight — that is where damp insulation and mould on the sarking come from. The same airflow that removes summer heat removes winter moisture.
As high as practical and spread across the roof rather than clustered — usually on the western or south-western slope so they catch the afternoon sea breeze. On a complex roofline with separate sections, units may need to go on more than one face to cover the whole cavity.
Not necessarily, though most people are. Dave will talk through placement before starting, and the job typically takes one to two hours. Access to the roof is all that is strictly needed.
The default recommendation in Bicton is wind-driven, and it is a genuine recommendation rather than an upsell avoided — the breeze here is reliable enough that turbines are not a compromise.
