Riverton sits about 12km back from the coast. The sea breeze does reach here — it just reaches here after the worst of the day's heat has already built up in your roof, which is the crux of the whirlybird-versus-solar decision locally.

Housing through Riverton is dominated by 1970s brick and tile on generous blocks. Seventies homes are the bread and butter of this trade: broad single-storey footprints, tile roofs at a workable pitch, and enough ceiling area that two units almost never cuts it.

They also tend to be the easiest to get right, because the eaves are wide and properly vented. When intake is not the limiting factor, adding extraction produces the result you actually expect.
