Floreat Whirlybird Installation and Replacement

At about 3km from the coast, Floreat gets a reliable Fremantle Doctor through summer — slightly softened by the run inland, but more than enough to keep turbines turning through the hottest part of the day.

Most of what Dave works on in Floreat is post-war brick and tile. Post-war brick-and-tile homes typically run a low-to-medium pitch with a modest eave overhang. Roof cavities are shallow, which means they heat up fast and transfer that heat down to the ceiling quickly.

Insulation in these houses is frequently original, thin, or has settled and gone patchy over decades. Ventilation will not fix poor insulation, but it does stop the cavity above it acting as a heat store all evening — which is usually the complaint that prompts the call.

Where Dave suggests going solar in Floreat is on larger homes — anything over roughly 250m² of ceiling area — where you would otherwise be fitting five or six turbines. At that point one or two solar vents move more air for similar money and keep the roofline cleaner.

Salt is a milder concern this far back from the water than it is right on the coast, but it is not zero. It is still worth specifying a decent unit rather than a bargain one.
