Subiaco Whirlybird Installation and Replacement
Subiaco 6008 sits about 4km west of the Perth CBD, in the Town of Cambridge. Dave installs and replaces whirlybirds and solar roof vents throughout the suburb — fixed prices, no subcontractors, travel included.
Subiaco is far enough inland — about 7km — that the sea breeze is a softer, later arrival. Wind-driven units are not useless here, but they are working fewer effective hours than the same units bolted to a roof on the coast.
Subiaco is largely character homes with steep tiled roofs. Older homes here were built before insulation was standard and often before sarking, so the roof cavity behaves differently to a modern one — it heats fast but also sheds heat readily once you give it somewhere to go.
What holds them back is almost always the eaves. Narrow originals, or later work that boxed them in, leaves the cavity with no reliable way to draw replacement air. Adding eave vents alongside the roof units is usually money better spent than a fourth turbine.
The usual answer in Subiaco is 4 whirlybirds, $1,250 all up. A steep character roof holds a lot more hot air than the floor area suggests.

Inland — late afternoon breeze
Why Solar Vents Often Win in Subiaco
This is where the advice changes. In Subiaco the sea breeze arrives late enough that wind-driven turbines miss the worst of the heat — your roof cavity peaks in the early afternoon, and the Doctor often does not turn up until after that.
A solar vent runs on sunlight instead, so it is at full output precisely when the roof is hottest. One unit at $750 typically moves more air than three turbines at $950, and it does not care whether the wind is blowing.
That said, plenty of Subiaco homes do perfectly well on whirlybirds alone — particularly smaller single-storey places with well-vented eaves. A common middle path here is one solar vent doing the heavy lifting plus a couple of turbines contributing whenever the breeze is up. Dave will tell you which of the three makes sense for your roof rather than defaulting to the dearest option.

FAQ
Whirlybird Installation Subiaco — Common Questions
From $350 for a single unit supplied and installed. Two units are $650, three are $950, and each unit after that adds $300. Travel to Subiaco 6008 is included and there is no call-out fee.
Steep pitch means more cavity volume per square metre of ceiling, so these homes often want one more unit than the floor area alone suggests. The general rule is one 300mm unit per 50–60m² of ceiling area, adjusted for pitch and how much intake venting the eaves provide. Dave works out the exact number from your details before quoting.
Yes. Subiaco is roughly 4km west of the CBD, comfortably inside the area Dave covers, and travel is included in the quoted price — a quote in Subiaco costs the same as one anywhere else in the metro.
Not if it is flashed properly. The flashing keeps water out, not the sealant — a unit bedded in silicone will eventually let go. Dave fits new flashing suited to your roof type on every install, which is the difference between a dry ceiling and a callback.
Yes, along with tile. Metal roofs use a purpose-made soaker or flashing fitted under the upper sheet and over the lower one, with matching screws and neoprene washers. On low-pitch Colorbond, placement high on the slope and clear of ridge caps matters more than it does on tile.
The unit, correct flashing for your roof type, cutting and fitting, removal and disposal of any old unit, full clean-up including metal swarf off the roof and out of the gutters, and travel to Subiaco. Nothing gets added afterwards.
