Sitting barely a kilometre from the coastline, Trigg is squarely inside the belt where the Fremantle Doctor is at its strongest. For roof ventilation that matters enormously: the wind peaks in the afternoon, which is the same window your roof cavity peaks.

Drive around Trigg and you are mostly looking at 1970s brick and tile on generous blocks. Seventies homes are the bread and butter of this trade: broad single-storey footprints, tile roofs at a workable pitch, and enough ceiling area that two units almost never cuts it.

They also tend to be the easiest to get right, because the eaves are wide and properly vented. When intake is not the limiting factor, adding extraction produces the result you actually expect.

Nine times out of ten in Trigg the answer is turbines, and the reason is simply economics: when the wind is this reliable, a $350 unit does the job a $750 unit would do, and you can fit three of them for less than two solar vents.

What Dave will not skimp on here is the unit itself. Salt air eats cheap roof vents from the bearing outward, and a seized turbine moves no more air than a hole in the roof with a lid on it. Spending a little more on the hardware is the whole difference between a fifteen-year unit and an eight-year one this close to the water.

Exceptions do exist — very large homes, or roofs shaded by neighbouring two-storey builds — where a solar vent earns its extra cost. Those get flagged before quoting rather than sold by default.
