Whirlybirds and Solar Vents in Belhus
Dave's Whirly Birds covers Belhus 6069 and the surrounding City of Swan area. Belhus sits about 23km north-east of the Perth CBD, and every job here is quoted at a fixed price up front and completed by Dave personally.
At around 25km inland, Belhus gets the least benefit from the Fremantle Doctor of anywhere Dave works. Roof temperatures run higher and the wind is less dependable — the two conditions that most favour a powered solar vent over a turbine.
The roof stock in Belhus is mainly newer estate housing, a lot of it Colorbond. Newer estate homes are the hardest case in Perth, and it is worth being blunt about why. Dark Colorbond roofs absorb far more heat than light tile, blocks are smaller so homes are built out to the boundary with wide footprints, and eaves are frequently narrow or boxed in entirely.
That combination gives you a roof cavity that gets extremely hot and has almost no natural intake. Adding extraction alone will underperform — the fix usually involves getting intake air in as well, which is cheaper than most people expect.
For a typical Belhus home you're looking at 4 whirlybirds — $1,250, installed in one visit. Dark Colorbond over a wide footprint is about the hottest combination going in Perth.

Far inland — light, late breeze
Why Belhus Roofs Usually Want Solar
Belhus is about as far from the coast as Dave works, and it shows up in two ways: summer roof temperatures run higher than on the coastal plain, and the wind is much less dependable. Those are the exact conditions where wind-driven whirlybirds disappoint people.
Solar vents are usually the better buy here. From $750 installed, a solar unit runs whenever there is sun on the panel — which out this way is most of the day, most of the summer — and shifts several times the air a turbine manages.
Whirlybirds still have a place in Belhus as a cheap supplement, or on smaller homes where the ceiling area is modest. What Dave will not do is sell you five turbines for a roof that needs one powered unit.

FAQ
Whirlybird Installation Belhus — Common Questions
From $350 for a single unit supplied and installed. Two units are $650, three are $950, and each unit after that adds $300. Travel to Belhus 6069 is included and there is no call-out fee.
Wide footprints and dark roofs push these homes toward four-plus units, or one to two solar vents. The general rule is one 300mm unit per 50–60m² of ceiling area, adjusted for pitch and how much intake venting the eaves provide. Dave works out the exact number from your details before quoting.
Yes — replacements start from $350 per unit. That covers removing the old roof vent, fitting new flashing, installing the new unit and taking the old one away. Most swaps reuse the existing roof penetration, so they take about 30–45 minutes each.
Same-week bookings are usually available in Belhus. Send an enquiry through the form and Dave will confirm the next slot along with a fixed price.
Yes. Belhus is roughly 23km north-east of the CBD, comfortably inside the area Dave covers, and travel is included in the quoted price — a quote in Belhus costs the same as one anywhere else in the metro.
Not if it is flashed properly. The flashing keeps water out, not the sealant — a unit bedded in silicone will eventually let go. Dave fits new flashing suited to your roof type on every install, which is the difference between a dry ceiling and a callback.
