How Much Does Whirlybird Installation Cost in Perth?

By Dave · 14 January 2026 · 4 min read

The short answer: $350 for one whirlybird supplied and installed, $650 for two, $950 for three, and $300 for each unit after that. Solar vents start at $750 each. Those are fixed prices across the Perth metro with travel included — not "from" prices that grow once someone is standing on your roof.

The longer answer is worth reading, because what varies between quotes is rarely the unit and almost always what is left out of the price.

What a Perth whirlybird quote should include

Before comparing two numbers, check that both cover all of this:

  • The whirlybird itself — brand and size, not just "a whirlybird"
  • Flashing correct for your roof type, tile or metal
  • Cutting, fitting, sealing and fastening
  • Removal and disposal of any old unit
  • Clean-up of offcuts, screws and swarf from the roof and gutters
  • Travel to your suburb

Swarf is the one people forget. Metal filings left on a Colorbond roof rust into the coating and leave permanent orange freckles. It costs nothing to sweep them off and everything to fix afterwards.

Why the second unit is cheaper than the first

Most of the cost of a whirlybird job is getting a person, a ladder and tools onto your roof safely. Once that has happened, the second and third units are mostly just materials and another twenty minutes each. That is why one unit is $350 but three are $950 rather than $1,050.

It is also why doing it all in one visit is cheaper than adding a unit next summer. If you think you might want four eventually, four now costs $1,250 — four across two visits costs considerably more.

What actually changes the price

Roof pitch and access are the two real variables. A steep two-storey roof takes longer to work safely than a single-storey 22-degree tile roof, and a house with no clear ladder access — tight side setbacks, a pool right against the eave, a second storey over a courtyard — takes longer to set up.

Anything unusual gets raised on the phone before the job is booked, not discovered on the day. If a quote changes after someone arrives, that was a bad quote, not a surprise.

Whirlybird vs solar vent: cost per unit of airflow

A solar vent costs $750 against $350 for a wind turbine — but it moves several times as much air and runs on still days. For a lot of Perth homes, one solar vent at $750 outperforms three whirlybirds at $950.

Where wind-driven wins on value is exposed, breezy sites: coastal suburbs, elevated blocks, anything west of the freeway with clear afternoon exposure. There, turbines spin hard for most of the hours that matter and the cheaper option is genuinely the better option.

Is it worth it?

A four-unit install at $1,250 against a Perth summer where the roof cavity sits above 60°C most afternoons is a reasonable bet. Roof ventilation does not replace insulation or air conditioning — it stops your ceiling acting as a radiator all evening, which means the aircon runs less to hold the same temperature.

With no running cost, nothing to service and a lifespan measured in decades, the payback maths only really depends on how hot your particular roof gets. That is exactly what the quote form is for.

Send your roof type and a rough ceiling size through the form and you will have a real price the same business day — not a range, and not a booking for someone to come and "assess" you.
